In Western Australia the Page family have been making bricks for over 100 years. The wide range of bricks come from high quality clay deposits sourced from the Central Wheatbelt and Narrogin Valley regions. The brickworks have historic and social significance, as brick making has always been an important industry and a source of much local employment. Many of the significant buildings in Katanning and surrounding areas have been constructed from these bricks. By incorporating local and regionally sourced materials into the building gives it a connection to its history. Extruded bricks are produced by clay being squeezed through a form to create the brick shape. This column of clay is then cut with wires. This process allows for a smooth, texture or scratch face finish. The finish leaves the surface slightly uneven after firing, creating a deeper look and feel. The wire cut bricks can also display a much wider range of colours within each brick.
